SPARK® 2.0 ERP Preliminary Project

A sound ERP decision in a matter of weeks—structured, AI-driven, and vendor-neutral.

SPARK 2.0 is ICB’s integrated ERP pre-project. It combines all three stages of our consulting process—analysis, selection, and project planning—into a single project, with each stage coordinated and organized into seven parallel steps. This allows us to achieve in weeks what traditional pre-projects take months to accomplish.

The result is a robust decision-making framework that includes a set of objectives, an architectural framework, a budget, a phased plan, and a rollout strategy—all fully documented, well-reasoned, and ready for decision-making.

Why 2.0? Because the AI agents we developed in-house support our consultants in six out of seven steps—they aggregate market data, classify requirements, and model architectures, while our consultants filter, contextualize, and make decisions. AI integration at this level of depth—with clear human oversight—is still the exception among German SMEs.

AI IN THE ERP PRE-PROJECT

In the SPARK pilot project, AI is not an add-on—it is the catalyst driving all three stages.

In the SPARK pilot project, AI acts as an accelerator, not a replacement: it handles the sorting, comparison, and drafting—we interpret, synthesize, and take responsibility. This allows us to produce market analyses, evaluation matrices, and decision-making documents in weeks rather than months, without compromising on depth or reliability.

Market Research & Vendor Screening
AI scans hundreds of ERP providers, reviews, and partner data in hours rather than weeks. We narrow down the long list to a short list—verified by experienced ERP consultants.
Requirement Classification
Workshop notes, specifications, and emails are added to the backlog as structured requirements—organized by process, module, and priority. AI-powered, with validation by you.
Fit-to-Standard Mapping
Requirements are compared against system capabilities—by vendor and by process. Customization risks are identified early on, rather than only after the contract is signed.
Evaluation Matrix Synthesis
AI aggregates quantitative assessments, manufacturer statements, and market data to form the basis for recommendations. Weightings and justifications remain transparent and traceable.
TCO & Risk Modeling
5-year TCO covering licensing, implementation, operations, and third-party systems—per vendor. AI models ranges based on vendor data and your volume structures; risks are quantified rather than estimated.
First draft of the document
AI generates a preliminary draft of the decision proposal, target architecture description, risk profile, and phase plan—consultants then refine, contextualize, and take responsibility for them.
Guiding Principles

Three guiding principles for making a future-proof ERP decision.

Standard First

We start with the best practices of modern cloud ERP platforms—not with your legacy processes. This significantly reduces the amount of customization required and ensures long-term upgradeability.

Cloud Platform First

We evaluate only cloud platforms with a clear innovation roadmap. This ensures you make an architectural decision that will still hold up in five years—with a level of innovation that on-premises systems simply can’t match.

AI Automation First

AI isn't just a marketing buzzword—it's a hard-and-fast selection criterion. For every provider, we specifically examine: What is currently available for productive use, what's on the roadmap, and what remains a demo?

CHALLENGE

Does this sound familiar to you?

Most companies face the same challenges when it comes to the future of ERP.

Unclear market overview

Dozens of ERP providers, but little to no way to compare them. Which one is right for your company, and which ones are just trying to make a sale?

High decision uncertainty

ERP is a multi-million-dollar investment. Bad decisions can set you back years and tie up resources. The implications are daunting.

Underestimation of internal effort

Your team is tied up with day-to-day operations. Conducting an ERP evaluation “on the side” leads to half-hearted results.

Lack of basis for decision-making

Without a clear analysis of processes, costs, and architecture, management lacks the basis for making informed decisions.

Risk of losing market share

While you are still evaluating, others are digitizing. Those who start too late lose negotiating power with suppliers and the best implementation partners.

AI as an unknown quantity

Everyone is talking about AI in ERP. But which features actually add real value? And which vendor actually delivers them?

AFTER SPARK 2.0

With SPARK 2.0 in hand: Ready for ERP implementation.

SPARK 2.0 concludes with a final proposal ready for your decision. The implementation itself is no longer part of the preliminary project—but if you wish, we will remain by your side and guide you through the subsequent ERP implementation all the way to go-live.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about SPARK 2.0

What is SPARK 2.0—and who is it for?+
SPARK 2.0 is our ERP pre-project, consisting of three sequential phases: ERP analysis, ERP selection, and ERP project planning. It provides a documented, vendor-neutral decision-making framework as the foundation for your target ERP. Designed for mid-sized companies that are implementing a new ERP or replacing their existing system—structured, transparent, and free from any commission conflicts on the part of the consultants.
How is SPARK 2.0 structured?+
Three modular phases with clearly defined deliverables: Phase 1 (ERP Analysis) provides a market analysis, a list of criteria, and 2–4 well-reasoned system recommendations. Phase 2 (ERP Selection) delves deeper with end-to-end process workshops, a detailed requirements specification, and a recommendation for a target system. Stage 3 (ERP Project Planning) translates the results into a phased plan, a budget with a 5-year TCO, and a rollout strategy. You can commission the entire package or start with a single stage—each stage is fully usable on its own.
How long does SPARK 2.0 take—and how much effort is required on the customer’s part?+
Complete preliminary project: 6 to 8 weeks from kick-off. Per phase: 1 to 4 weeks, depending on the scope. The effort required on the client’s part is intentionally minimal—typically 2 to 3 hours per department for facilitated workshops, plus document handoffs in advance. We handle market research, evaluation, classification, and initial draft documents internally using AI. Your day-to-day operations will be minimally impacted.
How much does SPARK 2.0 cost?+
Fixed price based on scope—depending on company size, number of departments, number of locations, and the complexity of your process landscape. Estimated cost for small and medium-sized businesses: mid- to high-five-figure range for the entire preliminary project; individual phases priced proportionally. You will receive a binding quote following the free 30-minute initial consultation—transparently calculated, with no hidden costs and no further obligation.
What role does AI play in the preliminary project?+
AI agents streamline repetitive research and documentation tasks across all three stages: market research, requirements classification, fit-to-standard mapping, evaluation matrix synthesis, TCO modeling, and initial document drafting. Workshops, evaluations, and decision-making remain human-driven—AI handles parallel processing, while consultants synthesize, contextualize, and take responsibility.
Is the ERP recommendation truly vendor-neutral?+
Yes. ICB does not receive any commissions or sales incentives from ERP vendors. We do not sell licenses or implement systems ourselves. Our recommendations are based solely on your weighted criteria list, as well as qualitative factors such as the implementation partner landscape, AI maturity, risk profile, and TCO. Every assessment is transparently documented and can be verified at any time.
What data is collected—and how is it protected?+
We collect only process and requirement data—no personal or business-critical information. Processing is GDPR-compliant and takes place on servers in the EU (Germany available upon request) and is subject to an NDA. The AI models we use are not trained on your data. Your workshops and documents remain your property.
Will SPARK 2.0 work even if we already have an ERP system?+
Yes. If you already have an ERP system in place, we use the current situation as a starting point and conduct a structured analysis to determine whether migration, optimization of the existing system, or a switch to a new platform makes the most economic sense. A cloud migration, an upcoming version upgrade, or a fundamental modernization are also typical scenarios for SPARK 2.0.
What happens after SPARK 2.0?+
With the decision document in hand, you can immediately engage an implementation partner—or incorporate the results into your own request for proposals. Upon request, we can also guide you through the subsequent ERP implementation: selection and management of the implementation partner, data migration, cutover, and hyper-care. SPARK 2.0 does not create an automatic obligation—you decide whether and how to proceed.
