"The company needed a new IT infrastructure"

Highest demands on IT

A new owner from Malaysia, a construction program worth billions, cost and time pressure, ambitious targets of up to two cruise ships per year and the whole thing spread over three locations along the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern coast. You don't have to be an expert in shipbuilding to realize that such an initial situation places the highest demands on IT, which a traditional company cannot usually meet ad hoc. It was exactly the same at the MV Werften-Verbund based in Wismar. The company's own vertical integration in IT was high and the IT organization was no longer up to date. The company needed a new IT infrastructure.

Equipped for future requirements

In order for MV Werften to be able to respond to the requirements, a basis for the development of a modern, secure and highly available IT infrastructure is required. To this end, the majority of IT services will be outsourced to service providers, which means an increase in the proportion of outsourcing from ten to up to 90 percent. This paradigm shift not only leads to concrete savings, but also helps to enhance the role of IT at the shipbuilder.

A modern, secure & highly available IT infrastructure

The ICB solution

An IT sourcing strategy was defined in line with the business objectives, strategic service packages were defined and the desired vertical integration was conceptualized. The jointly defined goal was to achieve a homogeneous IT infrastructure for simplified operations. To this end, an IT service management framework was also created to optimize IT processes and increase customer satisfaction within the company in the future.
Using a unique combination of cloud and on-premises architectures, strict standards and best practices, tender documents were created to select future providers for MV Werften. The tender process enabled the commissioning of strategic partners and innovation drivers.

Lower overall IT costs, reduce the complexity of IT services and use additional resources
Increasing the quality of IT service delivery through optimized IT services and the right provider mix
Optimal exploitation of IT opportunities and reduction of IT risks
